Toby the Traveling Terrier received this cool shipment of treats from the folks at Milk-Bone!
Not only did he get Milk–Bone Brushing Chews, which he needed, loved and promptly buried in the yard, but he also got Milk–Bone Good Morning Treats and some pup toys and accessories. Toby loves the treats and looks forward to them after our daily walks. They are actually vitamins, so he only gets one each day.
According to “Milk–Bone Human-Canine Health Study” — a survey of 3,000 U.S. dog parents conducted by Milk–Bone brand dog treats (in partnership with Learndipity Data Insights) — humans and dogs positively impact the health of one another, from morning routines to physical fitness. I’ve heard other studies report that people with pets live longer, too. Personal experience with Toby has already got me walking more regularly with fewer missed days than before he joined the family last year.
Some reported benefits to human health from the study showed:
45% of dog parents report being “active, fit, and healthy” versus 29% of non-dog parents.
44% of dog parents have a “healthy structure and daily routine” – like for morning vitamins – compared to 33% of non-dog parents.
51% of dog parents say they get more exercise because of their dog — but 1 out of 3 pet parents wish their dog would get more physical activity.
55% of dog parents say their lives are “full of happiness and joy” compared to 39% of non-dog lovers.
54% of dog parents report “feeling loved” while only 35% of non-dog parents do.
57% of dog parents who also have children involve the kids in their doggy caring care routines, with most reporting that it teaches them good life habits and responsibility.
Pretty cool, huh? If you are concerned about your dog’s health and wellness, you can learn more about the benefits of Milk-Bone Good Morning Treats here. You can also visit Milk-Bone’s Amazon Store using our affiliate link. They have some fun branded doggy swag for sale online, too.
We’ve got an awesome prize package to offer you from Del Real Foods! It’s a Party In A Box! We received one of these at EncinoMom headquarters and immediately ordered up an impromptu fiesta for a few friends. The Tacos Al Pastor kit contains seasoned meat, tortillas and enough salsa for 20 street tacos. Sold in the refrigerator section, these dishes are easy to heat and eat. You can sample some of these tasty offerings yourself as Del Real Foods gives tastings this month, making the rounds of Costco stores in the West (including California, Oregon and Utah). Check their website for dates and details. The cheese Pupusas and Tamales were also a hit with our Vegetarian guests.
Del Real Foods have been serving up fresh, flavorful and authentic Mexican meals since 2003. Their gluten, trans fat and MSG free, products are fully cooked and ready to heat and serve. We heated tortillas in the oven (in a clay tortilla warmer), pupusas on the stove top, tamales steamed in the top of the rice cooker and we used a cast iron skillet for the seasoned taco meat. Everything was ready to go in a matter of minutes.
We mixed up a batch of Margaritas for our adult guests and served limeade and horchata to the kids. I tossed some greens with Persian cucumbers, scallions, tomatoes, a sprinkling of Taco Seasoning from Ground 2 Table and a light citrus dressing (homemade) for a refreshing side salad. Friends brought tortilla chips and a ripe avocado and we had more food than we could eat!
Tell us which differences you found in our Feliz Cinco de Mayo pics! This prize box comes with a colorful blanket with moisture resistant backing to spread out on the grass, sand or picnic table. When you’re finished, it folds back up into a neat bundle with a carrying handle and zippered pouch. The pouch is large enough to hold your phone, keys and sunglasses, or maybe some napkins and utensils.
There is also a folding fabric cooler to carry your food and beverages. For this giveaway we’ve created the two pictures above for you to compare. Can you spot the differences? Here’s a hint: No tequila is included in the giveaway!
Speaking of tequila, you might like to know that the Angels pictured below are searching Los Angeles’ neighborhoods for Latino Angels in Training who are contributing to their communities with selflessness and virtuous service. Gran Centanario Tequila will be honoring these Angels In Training at a special VIP event on May 19th. That’s also the day that we will announce the winner of this Party In A Box!
Wow! Lots of distractions this morning. Packing the cooler with Z.E.N. Foods, plus planning the week’s meals for my family, receiving the script to study for an up-coming public appearance and getting the house sitter up to speed. I’m really looking forward to this trip to Yosemite and the opportunity to unwind, unplug and stare at the sky, the trees, the stars. I’ve got to finish packing, so I’ll keep it short, and see YOU tomorrow!

Getting ready for a room makeover for EncinoMom.com. There are so many details to take care of and a lot of prep work to make this project successful. The design work is complete and many of the products and decor items have been purchased or acquired to complete the project. The room is getting a real over haul! We are moving from a very pastel palate of pink, butter yellow and soft Spring green to Black and White graphic paint with Turquoise and Red as accent colors. There is a ripple effect moving throughout the house as pieces which are no longer desired find new homes in other rooms.
Last night my husband and I stayed up into the Wee Smalls putting together this new and improved guest bed! It does extra duty as a day bed, for naps in the afternoon, and a couch for one of our offices. More pictures and details to come as this project unfolds and Lizzy K’s new room is revealed!
Roasted vegetable lasagna rave. Watch my Day 18 journal to celebrate another pound down! Yeah! Take THAT Baby Fat!

Okay. We all knew yesterday would be a challenge with the Media Dinner at the Hard Rock Hollywood on my calendar. Let me tell you there are tastings and then there are tastings. This was A TASTING! A full on, sit down, we’re feeding you our new food and beverage menu, private room, chefs, lots of forks and spoons at your place setting, pr and restaurant power people and an entire buffet of food just for photos! Not all tasting events are this comprehensive.
Watch the video and I’ll take you through the courses. You’ll see why it was such a challenge to a weight loss mind set. I’m sure everyone has these kinds of challenges with different particulars so I think it’s important to include here. The biggest take away if you are working on your Summer figure, too is my attitude of enjoying it and moving on. It’s so easy to have something like this turn into a reason to quit. You feel like you’ve blown it and instead of forgiving, forgetting and going back to what IS working, you find yourself making a landslide of exceptions. Your mindset has deteriorated and your spiraling out of control. When that happens, the best thing I can do for myself is take a nap, a bath, a walk or meditate and reset my intentions.
You know, I’m finding that while I started this journey hoping to help you, it is really helping me more than I could have anticipated. I’ve noticed whenever I make decisions based on what I think YOU will like, I make better decisions for myself.
Thank you so much for your part in this process! Special thanks to all of our friends at Hard Rock Cafe for working so diligently to create this new menu and for sharing it with us last night. And thanks to Z.E.N. Foods for understanding how personal nutrition is and for supporting me and all of their clients with delicious, life affirming foods with zero effort (just like their name promises).

It’s day 14. No matter what I say in the video! I’m looking forward to dinner tonight with friends at LYFE Kitchen in Tarzana. Not only do I know that I’ll be in good company and that the evening will be super enjoyable, full of stimulating conversation and laughter, but I’m not at all worried about sticking with my program. I’ve been to LYFE several times (Palo Alto, Culver City and Tarzana locations!) and I know I will have a wonderful meal. One of my favorites there is a menu staple for them; Brussel Sprouts and Butternut Squash with Cranberries with a full flavored sauce! I’m planning to have a glass of wine tonight, too.
