DAY 14 Weight Loss Journal

It’s day 14. No matter what I say in the video! I’m looking forward to dinner tonight with friends at LYFE Kitchen in Tarzana. Not only do I know that I’ll be in good company and that the evening will be super enjoyable, full of stimulating conversation and laughter, but I’m not at all worried about sticking with my program. I’ve been to LYFE several times (Palo Alto, Culver City and Tarzana locations!) and I know I will have a wonderful meal. One of my favorites there is a menu staple for them; Brussel Sprouts and Butternut Squash with Cranberries with a full flavored sauce! I’m planning to have a glass of wine tonight, too.

DAY 8 Weight Loss Journal

Thought you might like to see a sample menu, so here’s what I have for today: Breakfast of Zucchini Bread with Greek Yogurt and Fresh Fruit (Cantaloupe and Blackberries), Lunch will be a Chicken Strawberry Patch Salad, for Dinner there’s Turkey Marsala with Cauliflower and Asparagus with a Gluten Fee Chocolate Mint Cupcake for Dessert. There is also a Snack of Fresh Honeydew and Raspberries with Raw Cashews. I usually have the snack in the late afternoon. I took a nice long walk in the neighborhood with my family, yesterday and am deciding whether to go to a yoga class in the park or for a nice long walk at the beach, today. Which would you choose?

DAY 7 Weight Loss Journal

Attitude is so important! I suppose I could chose to be discouraged this morning. My weight has stayed the same for the last three days. I don’t feel discouraged though, I feel good. I know I’m doing all of the things that assure my success, walking, breathing, enjoying the Z.E.N. Foods and imagining my delight at release pounds that no longer serve me (after all, I’m not eating for two any more – but wasn’t that fun!) With my energy and attitude in a good feeling place and Z.E.N. taking care of the obsession over calories and quality and quantity, there is nothing to do, but enjoy the process and trust that my results will be exactly what I expect them to be!

DAY 6 Weight Loss Journal

It’s Sunday morning. I’m about to begin my 6th day with Z.E.N. Foods. I’m feeling really good about this whole process. I’m recognizing where my habits haven’t been serving me. These are subtle things. In general, I’m healthy and happy with my body, weight and lifestyle. I tend to make good choices when it comes to diet and exercise. This is taking me on a journey to a new level of awareness and reinforcing my good habits – like preferring a variety of fresh foods and beverages – at the same time, I’m being called deeper – to pay attention to my impulses and urges that are a little off – a little contrary to my optimal health. I’m not looking for perfection, but I am taken advantage of the opportunity to pay attention. It’s like bowling with the guards up. You may not need the guards to keep you for throwing your ball into the wrong lane, but their presence allows you to focus on how accurately you are placing the ball and how to improve your chances of achieving your desired outcome. Z.E.N. Foods are my gutter ball guards!

DAY 5 Weight Loss Journal

This morning I talk about satisfaction. It is so important to feel satisfied. Of course, part of being human includes hunger and desire. But hunger and desire are not necessarily satisfied with food. I think we have deeper hungers and desires that drive us and sometimes we use food as a sort of placeholder or stopper to temporarily assuage those deeper yearnings. I think we all want to be loved and have a feeling of belonging for example. I know I take great pleasure in finding beauty all around me whether it’s a sunset, a work of art, a smile, the eyes of a child or a flower. I find all of these things to be nourishing. So today, I wish for you, deep nourishment, beauty, satisfaction and community.

DAY 4 Weight Loss Journal

I feel great and am looking forward to eating foods after the 3 day juice cleanse, but honestly feel I could do the 5 or 7 day cleanse pretty easily. The trick is taking care of yourself AND your family. If you’re making cheese quesadillas for them and cheese and salsa are your favorite foods, then any program where you are eating different foods from the rest of the family is going to be a challenge – for you & them. This week, our daughter has been away at sleep over camp for the first time ever. While I missed her like mad, I recognize how much it supported my juice cleanse. My husband is a saint when it comes to this sort of thing. He is slim already, but he takes advantage of the break in routine to forage in the kitchen and prepare his favorite foods for himself. How would taking extremely good care of yourself impact your family?

 

The At Home Spa Soak

On completion of Day 3 of my Z.E.N. Foods spa cleanse, I took an at home spa experience soak with the Himalayan Detox Bath Salts provided with the program. I thought you might enjoy your own moment of relaxation with this video I made with my phone. I was so relaxed, I made up a new word. See if you spot it.

DAY 3 Juice Cleanse

I’m really looking forward to this evening. Once the 3 day cleanse is complete, I have Himalayan Detox Bath Salts that Z.E.N. sent along with Organic Turmeric Ginger Green Tea bags to really give you that spa experience at home. Each day along with the juices, salad, soup and water that I consumed, I made several cups of tea using the day’s tea bag. I found that to be very soothing.

DAY 2 Juice Cleanse

Feeling great, energetic and upbeat. I normally have a cup of coffee (often more than one) in the morning, but skipped that yesterday. Normally, that would be the recipe for a headache! My head is clear and I’m grateful to be taking care of myself in this way. My favorite food yesterday was the Cucumber Pineapple Gazpacho. There were a few times during the day when other people where eating cheesy bread things when I thought, “I’d like one of those.” But when I thought about it for a second I realized that wasn’t what I wanted at all. It was just habit knocking on the door. I did experience the desire for something crunchy, but was satisfied with the toothsome Kale salad – cold, crispy and light. DAY 1 Spa Juice Cleanse

It’s day one of my Spa Juice Cleanse. So far so good. The juices are delicious and interesting, like nothing I would come up with on my own. I missed having breakfast, just a little. I’m naturally not a big breakfast eater, I don’t wake up starving, but I am in the habit of having a meal within an hour or so of waking up. I also generally have coffee – at least one cup. I skipped it this morning. I’m planning on having tea this afternoon (using the tea bag provided). I’ve also had about 24 oz of water already. I feel light and optimistic.
