HOME Review:

Recently, I saw a movie called Home. This animated film is about friendship, family, trust, and teaching us to never judge a book by it’s cover. Seeing Home on a big screen is recommended. It is very visually stimulating so you will never be bored. I watched this movie with an 8 year old who could NOT take his eyes off the screen. Home is a star-studded film starring the vocal talents of Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Jim Parsons, Steve Martin, and many more. Of course, being a teenager, I had a blast singing along to all of Rihanna’s songs during the movie.HOME_sq3150_s73_custom_f140

Anyway, in the beginning of the movie, we are introduced to Oh, an alien who is constantly trying to make friends and help his species but he is mostly misunderstood. When Tip (played by Rihanna) and Oh (played by Jim Parsons) stumble into each other’s paths, Tip is frightened and thinks Oh is a monster. She is hesitant to trust and let down her guard to him because she believes he is bad news. As the movie progresses, she realizes he is not a monster and that she can trust him. Throughout the movie, they are in search of Tip’s mother. Their friendship is put to the test and they show courage and bravery. I highly recommend this movie to families with kids of all ages.

Tween Room Upgrade

Tween Room Upgrade

Here’s an inspiration board including a collection of the items we have to work with and a few wish list pieces.

We’ll be posting the whole project, including before photos and updates to the vision board as we hone in on the design process. Finally, we’ll post the results when the project is complete.

It’s important to have input from the tween, engaging their imagination and empowering them, too. Of course, change is an inherent part of the process!

This is phase one: dreaming, planning and designing. Follow along as we undertake this project with an expected completion date of July 4th, 2014 – appropriately timed with Independence Day, don’t you think?
