Popin’ Cookin’ Sushi

My friend Katie and I decided to experiment with the Sushi edition Popin’ Cookin’. Like most of the Popin’ collection, the sushi package is sweet and candy flavored rather than savory and realistic. It was a BLAST making all the different parts of the sushi and then putting them all together. The kit comes with a mini mixing spoon, the mixing “bowls”, “seaweed”, and powders to make rice, fish, and fish eggs. My favorite part of creating candy sushi was making the tiny fish eggs. You mix two powders with water separately and then with an eye dropper, you drop small portions of one liquid into the other causing it to instantly solidify in balls. Then you can scoop the eggs out of the solution and place them as a final touch on top of the rice and seaweed.

Here are some tips:

1. Look up the directions online. Since the whole package is in Japanese, it would make the process much easier to look up the English translation. Popin’ Cookin’ Sushi Instructions

2. Take your time. Buy a couple boxes and share them with your friends. Making this fun mini foods isn’t about the taste, it’s about the experience. Take your time and have fun watching each other’s reactions as you take your first bites.

3. HAVE FUN!! ☺️

SSOTW means Snapchat Story Of The Weekend. Since I was MIA, due to the lack of service, I decided to summarize my weekend using a snapchat story. Over the weekend my dad and I went on a mini road trip to my Grandma’s cabin in Pinecrest.

It’s safe to say we had a blast! At seven in the morning on Saturday we stuffed all of our stuff and our dog into the car and began our trip. We had some heavy duty fog which was way more fun for the passenger than the driver. However, we got through it and took a different route which was a SUPER shortcut through the middle of nowhere. It was extremely beautiful as you can see in my photo captioned “no filter.” This road was 100 miles of that picture, clear skies, green grass, and cows. When we got there I snapped a picture of a few photos I came across of both my Grandpas. At about midnight I decided I wanted to rent a movie, so once again we piled in the car (with my dog in my arms) and headed over to Twain Harte where a little movie rental box sits outside the market. (Which is when I took the night picture asking where I was.) We rented 22 Jump Street and Single Moms Club. The next day we decided to check out the nearest mall which happened to be 100 miles away. The drive was once again breathtaking. I got a great picture of the creepy trees above our car. Then we came back to the cabin, cleaned it all up, stuffed everything into the car AGAIN, and by seven in the evening we were on our way home. We experienced more heavy duty fog which made the scenery look like it was the edge of the world. It was extremely difficult to capture the moment in a picture due to the lighting. Anyway we got home at one in the morning just in time for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Discovery Cube LA

Discovery Cube LA, Opens At Hansen Dam Recreation Area

At 9:30 am sharp, my family and I bunched into a car and ventured over to the new Discovery Cube in Sylmar, California. We just so happened to be invited to this glorious opening event, so we accepted the invitation. When someone says fun and science in the same sentence I usually zone out and pretend to listen because until now I thought it was literally impossible for science to be fun, (no offense period 1.)

I walked in and was immediately struck by my urge to run around and try everything out. Everything was extremely interactive which is something I deeply appreciate. You could make your own tornado, pull yourself up a rope SITTING DOWN, explore a safe and eco-friendly house, experience multiple simulators, and go in a wind tunnel or as I like to call it, a big hair dryer thing for your whole body.

The Discovery Cube is kind of like smart DisneyLand, same amount of fun, except you learn things other than how to avoid stroller wheel stubbed toes. It would be literally perfect for a field trip.

One of my favorite activities, aside from the mini market set up as a healthy eating game, was exploring an eco-friendly house. At the back of the Discovery Cube, you pick up iPads, that are used to ask question and track your answers about the home. The little house was adorably decorated just like a real living space. It had certain details in each part (garage, backyard, living room, etc) that were eco-friendly. You had to search through the house looking for clues to solve questions. But then again, I had a blast interacting with all the attractions. Overall, it was a great experience that I wouldn’t trade for a million dollars.

Tip from Mom: The Discovery Cube is a great destination for the whole family, especially good for children from about 5 or 6 to 14 years old. We really enjoyed the 4D movie shown in the theatre (separate entry ticket required). Family passes are priced from $99 for the whole family for the whole year.
