Tea & Tears: The Best Of Me Movie Screening Party
Okay, here’s what we did. We screened the *Tears of Joy Edition of The Best of Me here in the EncinoMom screening room on Sunday! Before the movie (which arrived with a box of Kleenex – I’m not kidding) we had some tasty samples lined up for our guests.
Ultimately, we decided to watch the theatrical release version of the movie because none of us would watch it if we saw the storybook “Tears Of Joy” ending first. So the Kleenex turned out to be a very good thing to have on hand in the studio!
When guests first arrived, everyone commented on how good it smelled. I credit the tea and the scented candles in the goodie bags, even though we hadn’t lit any of them, yet!
The tables were laid out with vintage tea cups and ladies’ luncheon plates. You can definitely tell the plates are authentic because there is an ashtray molded into each one, so ladies could smoke while enjoying their lunch. Seems outrageous, now, but I imagine these plates were used at fashionable gatherings where the women wore gloves and girdles.
We sampled the new Kale Caesar Salad from the Corner Bakery, some Davidson’s Safest Choice Eggs (which I used to make egg salad sandos with cucumber) and then we tucked into some amazing cupcakes and treats from SusieCakes along with a limited edition tea from Teavana, created especially for Valentine’s Day.
The First Blush Tea features naturally scented Jasmine green tea blended with floral orchid oolong complemented by luscious strawberries, crisp rhubarb and effervescent undertones of bubbly rosé. It arrived in a big box with surprises that we put into goody bags.
This tea smells amazing! It is lovely and subtle and beautiful, too. We used the Perfectea maker pictured above. It’s so simple to use and ensures that your tea comes out just right. It’s especially helpful if you’re a lazy tea maker like me. I tend to leave tea to steep too long which results in bitterness that no amount of milk and sugar can remedy.
The tea also came with this Pairing Tip: blend iced First Blush Tea with a glass of champagne for a fun and easy to make Teavana cocktail.
We knew just about everyone on the guest list would be down with that so we picked up our favorite Brut! This was a big hit and was the perfect complement to our menu. We added a few fresh raspberries and hibiscus flowers in rose syrup to the champagne/tea cocktail as a beautiful blushing garnish. The soft color of the tea makes this a perfect choice for Valentine’s Day. Surprisingly, we sweetened the tea slightly with a few crystals of Teavana’s Perfectea Rock Sugar for just the right blend of flavors in the champagne cocktail.
So Sunday was like a mini restaurant tour and product Expo! We had a great time together which of course was the point of the whole thing and our guests were encouraged to take pictures and post to Instagram, Facebook or Tweet, Flip, Pin, Kick, etc. to share the fun.
You can have an event like this at home with your friends and we can help! We’ve got one copy of the *Tears of Joy Edition of The Best of Me on Blu-ray and DVD to giveaway. Follow the link to enter on Rafflecopter and don’t forget to leave us a comment!

Wow! Lots of distractions this morning. Packing the cooler with Z.E.N. Foods, plus planning the week’s meals for my family, receiving the script to study for an up-coming public appearance and getting the house sitter up to speed. I’m really looking forward to this trip to Yosemite and the opportunity to unwind, unplug and stare at the sky, the trees, the stars. I’ve got to finish packing, so I’ll keep it short, and see YOU tomorrow!

Getting ready for a room makeover for EncinoMom.com. There are so many details to take care of and a lot of prep work to make this project successful. The design work is complete and many of the products and decor items have been purchased or acquired to complete the project. The room is getting a real over haul! We are moving from a very pastel palate of pink, butter yellow and soft Spring green to Black and White graphic paint with Turquoise and Red as accent colors. There is a ripple effect moving throughout the house as pieces which are no longer desired find new homes in other rooms.
Last night my husband and I stayed up into the Wee Smalls putting together this new and improved guest bed! It does extra duty as a day bed, for naps in the afternoon, and a couch for one of our offices. More pictures and details to come as this project unfolds and Lizzy K’s new room is revealed!
Roasted vegetable lasagna rave. Watch my Day 18 journal to celebrate another pound down! Yeah! Take THAT Baby Fat!

Okay. We all knew yesterday would be a challenge with the Media Dinner at the Hard Rock Hollywood on my calendar. Let me tell you there are tastings and then there are tastings. This was A TASTING! A full on, sit down, we’re feeding you our new food and beverage menu, private room, chefs, lots of forks and spoons at your place setting, pr and restaurant power people and an entire buffet of food just for photos! Not all tasting events are this comprehensive.
Watch the video and I’ll take you through the courses. You’ll see why it was such a challenge to a weight loss mind set. I’m sure everyone has these kinds of challenges with different particulars so I think it’s important to include here. The biggest take away if you are working on your Summer figure, too is my attitude of enjoying it and moving on. It’s so easy to have something like this turn into a reason to quit. You feel like you’ve blown it and instead of forgiving, forgetting and going back to what IS working, you find yourself making a landslide of exceptions. Your mindset has deteriorated and your spiraling out of control. When that happens, the best thing I can do for myself is take a nap, a bath, a walk or meditate and reset my intentions.
You know, I’m finding that while I started this journey hoping to help you, it is really helping me more than I could have anticipated. I’ve noticed whenever I make decisions based on what I think YOU will like, I make better decisions for myself.
Thank you so much for your part in this process! Special thanks to all of our friends at Hard Rock Cafe for working so diligently to create this new menu and for sharing it with us last night. And thanks to Z.E.N. Foods for understanding how personal nutrition is and for supporting me and all of their clients with delicious, life affirming foods with zero effort (just like their name promises).

It’s day 14. No matter what I say in the video! I’m looking forward to dinner tonight with friends at LYFE Kitchen in Tarzana. Not only do I know that I’ll be in good company and that the evening will be super enjoyable, full of stimulating conversation and laughter, but I’m not at all worried about sticking with my program. I’ve been to LYFE several times (Palo Alto, Culver City and Tarzana locations!) and I know I will have a wonderful meal. One of my favorites there is a menu staple for them; Brussel Sprouts and Butternut Squash with Cranberries with a full flavored sauce! I’m planning to have a glass of wine tonight, too.
Trusting your body is so important! I’m noticing I’m a lot happier when I get some exercise into my day, even a modest amount. It really helps with my mood, my attitude and my overall outlook. Working at the computer and on the phones can really keep my thinking inside the box. When I go for a walk, stroll around the back yard or take a yoga or qigong class, I really feel the difference. I’m always looking for windows of time to get myself to the beach, too. Looking at the ocean, feeling the salt air, the sea breezes, the sand underfoot, these things fuel my imagination, clear my mind and make room for inspiration.
How about you? What do you do to clear your head and keep things in perspective?

There’s a lot going on right now as we close in on the end of the school year, the transition to Summer and an increased travel and personal appearance schedule. It is exhilarating and challenging if I try to think about all of the details that I am ultimately responsible for! I love to focus deeply on whatever I am doing at the moment. When you watch these videos or read these words, I hope you can feel my intention to bring forth a little calm, a little clarity and some enthusiasm for this journey.
See you in a minute,

Thought you might like to see a sample menu, so here’s what I have for today: Breakfast of Zucchini Bread with Greek Yogurt and Fresh Fruit (Cantaloupe and Blackberries), Lunch will be a Chicken Strawberry Patch Salad, for Dinner there’s Turkey Marsala with Cauliflower and Asparagus with a Gluten Fee Chocolate Mint Cupcake for Dessert. There is also a Snack of Fresh Honeydew and Raspberries with Raw Cashews. I usually have the snack in the late afternoon. I took a nice long walk in the neighborhood with my family, yesterday and am deciding whether to go to a yoga class in the park or for a nice long walk at the beach, today. Which would you choose?
