DUNES’ LIGHTING OF THE BAY NOV 25th

26th Annual Tradition To Feature Brilliantly Lit Christmas Trees & Decorations Floating on the Bay, Visit From Santa, Live Holiday Music & Family Fun Movie

One of Southern California’s most cherished holiday traditions will come alive as Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort hosts its 26th Annual Lighting of the Bay on Friday, November 25. The festivities will include live musical performances by OC Song & Dance and the Corona del Mar High School Choir, a roaming magician, three puppet shows and a visit by Santa Claus who will flip a massive switch to illuminate dozens of floating “trees” and other holiday decoration on the water. There will also be a screening of “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas” for the kids. Parking and all activities are free including, build-your-own-s’mores, cookies, hot cocoa, and cider. The Dunes will be selling its award-winning seafood chowder, hot dogs, chili and corn muffins and bar will be open for the grown-ups.

FRIDAY, NOV. 25 LINE-UP   

  • 3 p.m. — Corona del Mar High School Choir and OC Children’s Song Group perform holiday songs.
  • 5:30 p.m.  –  Santa arrives and leads the countdown to flip the giant switch to light the bay.
  • 6 p.m. – Families are encouraged to dress warmly and bring blankets to enjoy a screening of “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas” on the beachfront.
On Saturday the 26th, the Dunes will open its Christmas Tree Farm. Santa Claus will be on hand during select times to take photos with the kids. Hours will be from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. daily through December 24.  There, families may choose from Nobles, Nordmans and Grand Firs ranging from 3’ to 10’.

Then on Sunday, December 3rd, the critically acclaimed Back Bay Bistro will serve a brunch with Santa from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Executive Chef Bruno Massuger will prepare a special holiday brunch designed to get families in the Christmas spirit, including a visit from Santa from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Price is $45 for adults with endless Champagne and mimosas and $16 for children under 10. Free parking for event attendees and Sunday brunch is free with Bistro validation.

Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort is a non-membership recreational area featuring a 386-site state-of-the-art RV park, 450-slip marina and a private waveless beach and playground that has been enjoyed by families since 1958.

Newport Dunes is also home to 24 mobile cottages that the public may rent. Its onsite restaurant, the Back Bay Bistro, is critically acclaimed and highly sought after dining spot thanks to its eclectic menu and stunning water views.  The Dunes is located at 1131 Back Bay Drive.  Call 949-729-3863 for more information.
